API keys
Create and use API keys
Keys let scripts and tools that can’t sign in use your PopsicleAI account.
Most AI tools should connect with a sign-in instead; they don’t need a key. Use an API key for your own scripts, automations, or an MCP client that can only send a header.
Create a key
- 1Open the account menu and choose MCP and API keys.
- 2Under API keys, choose Create key.
- 3Name it after where you’ll use it (up to 100 characters), and if you have several workspaces, pick the one new studies made with this key should go into.
- 4Choose Create key, then copy the key. It starts with
ak_.
You only see the full key once. Store it somewhere safe, like a password manager or your tool’s secret settings. Anyone with the key can use your account.
Use a key
Send it as a Bearer token in the Authorization header, to the MCP connector or to the API:
Authorization: Bearer ak_your_key_hereFor example, to add PopsicleAI to Claude Code with a key instead of signing in:
claude mcp add --transport http popsicleai https://popsicleai.app/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer ak_your_key_here"Manage keys
- You can have up to 5 keys. The list shows each key’s name, workspace, the start of the key, when it was created and when it was last used.
- Delete a key with the trash icon. Anything using it stops working straight away.
- Keys can do what you can do in your studies, but can’t manage teams or billing.
