Getting started
How the AI interviewer works
What the interviewer does in a session, and how your guide shapes it.
Every interview starts from the same base interviewer prompt: how a good researcher runs a session. It greets the participant, asks one open question at a time, listens, follows up on what they say, stays neutral, and doesn’t lead them to an answer. You can read it from the interview guide section of any study.
Your interview guide is added on top. It tells the interviewer what this study is about: the topics to cover, in what order, and when to show images, videos or prototypes. Keep it to what makes your study unique; the interviewer already knows how to interview.
During a session
- The interviewer keeps an eye on the time and wraps up before the session length you set.
- In voice interviews, participants can also type if they prefer. Chat interviews are typed only.
- When your guide says to show something, it appears on the participant’s screen and the interviewer asks about it.
- Participants can end the interview at any time.
After a session
The recording and transcript appear on the study page, and the interview counts towards your minutes. See How interview minutes work.
